Oppo A72 Design
Oppo A72 has an impressive design you can’t really tell that it is a budget smartphone after looking at it. It has a big screen, relatively thin 8.9mm chassis, a stylish, glossy back panel, and also a camera bump at back.
At the front, there is a small punch hole for selfie camera at the top left corner of the screen which is providing a good look.
A72 comes in four different colors which include Twilight Black, Stream White, Sky Blue, Aurora Purple. There are the thin bezels around the side of the display.
A72 comes with the modern USB-C as charging and data transfer port rather than micro USB. There is also a headphone jack available on the phone. Due to headphone jack, you don’t have to invest in expensive wireless earbuds. A fingerprint sensor is also available which is side-mounted and works very well in our test.
Lastly, it has an impressive design as compared to the price of this phone.
A72 has a sharp and bright display, it has the punch-hole cut-out at the top left corner of the screen for the front camera. You will get a big screen of 6.5-inches, 1080 x 2400, with the 20:9 aspect ratio IPS LCD display. We found this display sharp and bright for all key tasks including browsing and watching videos.
The brightness level and contrast levels of A72 might not hit the heights of very best phone displays but as compared to the price you can’t complain about the display.
It does not come with the highest 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate, it has a refresh rate of 60Hz that doesn’t make too much difference.
We have tested the screen of Oppo A72 in all standard apps and found color reproduction and crispness to be up to standard. You can also change the color temperature of the screen if you wish, a slider will let you move between cooler or warmer temperature.
If you want to do some gaming on the A72, then the screen will give you perfect performance with minimal lag or ghosting. If you are viewing something in Full-screen mode, then there is no feature to hide the punch hole in the corner, but it will not distract you too much.

The A72 comes with the quad-camera setup at the backside, which includes the main camera of 48MP with the aperture of f/1.8, 8MP of the ultra-wide, macro sensor of 2MP, and 2MP depth sensor with LED flash.

Moreover, other features of cameras include Phase detection, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama, Video (4K at 30fps rate, 1080p at 30/120fps, gyro-EIS)
With the A72, we were able to get some very good shots in the daytime with strong brightness and good color reproduction. Dark and light areas are also handled well by cameras. The camera app was also working quickly at finding a focus point and also in taking a snap.
The quad lenses of A72 will not give you any kind of optical zoom, but you can take ultra-wide shots. Basic scenes are recognized by cameras very well such as indoor and outdoor. There is also a dedicated night mode available on the phone which will help you in taking snaps at night time. You have to keep the camera stable for a second while taking the snap.
Moreover, we are satisfied and impressed by the cameras of Oppo A72.
A72 Specs and Performance
The Oppo A72 landed in the market with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset. It comes with the 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which you can expand by adding a microSD card.
We found the A72 dealing with all-day tasks of modern life without any trouble which includes email, web browsing, social media, and gaming. Even a game like Asphalt 9 runs fine on this handset. You have to wait a little more than flagship phones for the loading screen, and also you don’t get as smooth frame rate as on expensive devices.
On the software side, you will get Oppo’s ColorOS on top of Android 10. The A72 will perform just fine for you if you don’t need too much performance from the phone. After using the phone for several days we didn’t find any issue with the A72.
There is also a separate Game Space app is available on the phone. This app will mute notifications and block all background processes while playing games. This will definitely help you in increasing performance during gameplay.
In our test on the Geekbench app, the A72 scored 301 in the single-core and 1197 in the multi-core test, and 369 in the OpenCL compute benchmark.
Lastly, we can say that Oppo didn’t disappoint us in terms of performance.
Oppo A72 Battery
A72 comes with the battery size of 5000mAh. Battery life depends on what you are doing on your phone but we find this battery enough for a day if you are using for normal purposes.
ColorOS comes with some useful battery optimization features and tips. It will warn you about apps that are draining the battery too much. If you do the settings according to tips then your battery will last longer. It also gives you estimates about the extra time you will get after applying settings.
In our test after watching videos for a couple of hours, the battery decreases from 100% to 80% which is respectable enough performance. It means you should get around 10 hours of watching streaming videos. According to the battery size of 5000mAh, we were expecting a little more.
If you manage battery life, you can also use the battery on the second day. Oppo is not offering you wireless charging but it is offering a fast-charging up to 18W.
