How to zip a file or unzip a file or folder

Zipping a file or folder will take less storage space on the computer. The zipped file can be transferred more quickly to other computers than the original file. In windows, you deal with zip files and folders in the same way. You can also combine several files into a single zipped folder to transfer a large number of files at the same time. Here is How to zip a file or unzip a file.


How to zip a file  or a folder:

Step 1 :

First of all, find the file or folder you want to zip 

Step 2 :

After this right-click the file or folder then select the send to and after selecting send to select the compressed (zipped) folder.

Step 3 :

A new zipped folder with the same name will be created in the same location with a zip extension. To rename that file right click on the folder and select rename  and then rename the file or folder 




 How to Unzip a file or a folder :

Step 1 :

Locate the folder that you want to unzip 

Step 2 :

To unzip a single file or folder :

To unzip a single file or folder, open the zipped folder, and after opening the folder simply drag that file or folder from the zipped folder to a new folder or location.

step 3 :

To unzip all the content of the zipped folder :

To unzip all the content of the zipped folder press and hold the right click and after this select the extra all and after selecting extract all just follow the instruction that the computer will give you.


 How to add a file or folder in the zipped folder :

 

  1. Now to add some files to the zip folder that you created earlier is simple and easy.Simply select the files that you want to add to the zipped folder and then drag them on the top of the zipped folder
  2. By adding an encrypted file into a zipped file is risky because when you will add the encrypted file in the zipped folder will be unencrypted when the folder will be unzipped. And that can lead to the leaking of personal information or some sensitive information.

How to zip files with Ribbon Menu :

The file explorer in windows 10 has a zip command in the Ribbon menu. This command is more convenient in convertible laptops . that prefer to tap on the file not to right-click and hold. Here is how to use it

Step 1 :

Firstly select your file or folder that you want to zip as we did it in the send to menu

Step 2 :

go to the share tab in the file explorer

Step 3 :

And now click on the zip button

This Ribbon method also works in Windows 8.1  and the send to menu works in all of the previous versions of the windows
